An Anesthetic Record should be prepared for each patient. A current weight should be obtained and recorded on the patient’s anesthetic record. The anesthetic record should be maintained as consistently as possible during the event. All unusual developments should be noted on the record and all important points transferred to the Master Problem List in the patients medical record. Record the dose and timing of all medications given to the patient.

Postanesthetic recovery notes are an essential component of the anesthetic record.  Please do not fail to record this valuable information. Properly maintained anesthetic records provide a significant advantage when planning subsequent anesthetic events for that patient. Pitfalls can be avoided and effective strategies can be repeated.
